Jannik Sinner wastes no time: already at work in Monte Carlo for No. 1

First images of Jannik Sinner on the court in Monte Carlo to prepare for the Masters 1000 starting in a few days. Recovering from the American double success in Indian Wells and Miami, achieved without losing a single set, the Azzurro approaches the clay-court season at home in the Principality, where he has never won but has always shined, reaching the final stages of the tournament.

In 2022 Sinner was defeated in the quarterfinals by Zverev, while in 2023 and 2024 he was eliminated in the semifinals by Rune and Tsitsipas. Last year, the South Tyrolean champion was suspended for the Clostebol case: this very absence could allow him to gain more valuable points over world number one Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner, back from 8 months on cement, wants to find the right feelings on clay as soon as possible in view of the next phase of tournaments, which will culminate at Roland Garros where he will seek revenge on the Spanish tennis player after last season’s splendid final at the Philippe-Chatrier.

The tennis player should also participate in the doubles tournament precisely to find more and more feeling on red: he will be paired with Belgian Zizou Bergs. “Zizou and Sinner trained together in Indian Wells, and Jannik asked him to play doubles together in Monte Carlo,” the Belgian tennis player’s father told Ubitennis. “Zizou would never have dared to ask him, so he was quite surprised. I think Jannik likes Zizou’s attitude and personality.”

Sinner could return to number one immediately in Monte Carlo if he wins the tournament in the Principality or loses the final and Alcaraz does not go beyond the semifinals.
