No chance for Ugo Humbert against Jannik Sinner. In Monte Carlo, the world number two was relentless and beat the French tennis player 6-3, 6-0 comfortably entering the third round of the tournament at the end of a match that lasted just over an hour. Humbert tried to hang on in the first set, only to collapse sharply in the second.

“I held for almost a set, then he started to find his rhythm, hitting harder and harder. And the match got a little more complicated. The second set was very tough… That’s why he’s so phenomenal, because of the areas he plays in, his contact with the ball, how he positions himself,” Humbert told L’Equipe.

Sinner has become more unpredictable, according to the Frenchman: “It’s very difficult to understand how he’s playing, and I also found his ball quite heavy. In fact, he hits hard but with a lot of confidence at the net; there are rare moments when you have the feeling that he is just trying to hit hard,” are the transalpine’s words.

“He is incredibly solid, he is always aiming for something, and when you face him, you have that feeling that you have almost no solutions against him,” continued Humbert, who then revealed that he has a knee discomfort that is limiting him. I have a slight pain, I will contact my team to decide whether to continue playing in Barcelona or to rest and get treatment, because I don’t want the situation to linger.”

Jannik Sinner continues his run in the Principality’s Masters 1000: in the next round he will face the winner of the challenge between Cerundolo and Machac.
