Medvedev shaken by Berrettini's humiliation: "It took me a week to understand"

Daniil Medvedev on the eve of his Madrid tournament debut returned to talk about the drubbing suffered in Monte Carlo by Matteo Berrettini. The Russian champion was overwhelmed 6-0, 6-0 by the Azzurro in a match without history that left the Muscovite upset.
“When you lose 6-0 and 6-0… it’s clear that something is wrong,” Medvedev told ¡MÁS! At this level you can’t lose like that, something was wrong that day. Then you try to figure out the reasons to prevent it from happening again. I’m not extraordinary on clay, but I can usually play.”
“After a loss, you always go through difficult moments, some really affect your confidence, especially if you lose in the first round to someone you think you should beat. That can affect subsequent tournaments.”
“With a 6-0 double loss, there are no exceptions, it hurts from the humiliation, but that’s the way sports are. I am not the first nor the last to experience such a situation. Those days were complex, it took me a whole week to get my rhythm back and figure out what I needed to do. The good thing is that the next tournament was not imminent, so we managed to come out of that situation very calmly, training well. That’s why I’m playing better now.”
