GT World Challenge, great success in Monza

1More than 40,000 spectators crowded the Autodromo Nazionale Monza between Friday and Sunday to follow the GT World Challenge powered by AWS. On the track 59 cars and 176 drivers of various nationalities, flanked by two major support series: the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, with 40 cars at the start, and the McLaren Trophy Europe, with 16 crews.

The 3 Hours of the GT World Challenge, held on a sunny afternoon and almost summer weather, saw the #48 Mercedes of the Winward Racing team driven by Matteo Cairoli, who thus celebrated in the best way his 29th birthday. Also in the cockpit with him were Austrian Lucas Auer and German Maro Engel. The trio completed 84 laps in 2h59’59″663, maintaining an average speed of 161.9 km/h.

In the various classes, Klingmann, Tuck and Al Zubair (BMW M4 GT3 EVO, WRT) in the #777 car stood out in the Gold Cup; Hartog and Au (Porsche GT3 R-992, Rutronik Racing) in the #97 in the Bronze Cup; and Waberski, Moore and Jansen (BMW M4 GT3 EVO, Century Motorsport) in the #42 in the Silver Cup.

Great attendance also for the Meet & Greet in Fanzone, where several GT World Challenge drivers powered by AWS met with fans. Before the start, the National Anthem was performed by the Fanfara Alpina “Angelo Masciadri” of Asso, which also entertained the audience with other songs.

Between the side races, in the second round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, Frenchman Paul Levet and Malaysian Adam Putera with the VRS team won, taking their first victory. Also of note was a symbolic milestone: with this stage, 700 drivers have become participants in the Sant’Agata Bolognese manufacturer’s one-make series since 2009.

In the McLaren Trophy Europe, finally, overall victory went to Australian Jayden Kelly and Briton Michael O’Brien of the Greystone GT team.
