Marc Marquez disappointed, world champion shakes up Ducati

Starting with high expectations in what is one of the most anticipated weekends for Spanish MotoGp fans, Marc Marquez came back down to earth after a disappointing Friday, which saw him finish fifth in the first timed session and fourth in the second, in both cases more than half a second behind the first position, occupied in the morning by Fabio Di Giannantonio and at the end of the day by Marc’s brother Alex Marquez.

Talking to ‘As,’ the reigning world champion was anything but soft on his Desmosedici: “We’re in Q2 and that was the minimum goal, but we have to work hard to take a step forward because right now we’re not quite there. For now we are from fifth position, fourth at the most: the podium seems quite far away to me, Alex has more chances to win than I have to finish in the top three. Qualifying, however, will be decisive.”

The 1993 class identified critical points: “I need to improve in the last two right-hand corners, I lose a lot of time there. These are two corners where I usually never feel like forcing, but if there is a need and I have the right feeling I will try. If not, I will focus exclusively on closing the lap well.”

The problem, Marquez specified, is not related to the aftermath of the injury: “Physically I am fine. Alex and Di Giannantonio, for now, are simply faster. We are working with the team to try to get closer, we have to do it step by step. I struggle a bit on the dry lap, with the used tire it’s a bit better: what I lose with the new tire, though, I don’t make up for later.”
