Italy’s repechage to the World Cup, escorts also take the field

Pietro Senaldi, co-director of Libero, intervenes between the serious and the facetious on the issue of Italy’s possible repechage to the World Cup to be played between Canada, Mexico and the United States. “I mean, but can I of organize a World Cup without having escort-goers (but the term used is another one, ed.) as top-notch as some Italian soccer players,” he wondered? But my reading of it is another, because this affair was concomitant with the explosion of this sex scandal involving many Serie A soccer players who were allegedly in the business of an escort agency that arranged for them to meet even sexually with young women.”

“There is no crime for the guys, however, I think that since maybe some national team players are also involved, and here maybe it explains why they can’t get a damn thing done on the field, maybe Trump got excited, let’s say, by this sexual activism of our soccer players and says ‘But can I of organize a World Cup without having (the same term as before, ed.) top-notch guys like Italian soccer players?'”.

“And so, here, I believe that if this practice is unblocked, maybe it will be because of the war, probably it will be because of Zampolli, maybe it will be because this Zampolli has confused Antonio Conte with Giuseppe Conte, but mostly it will be because of the way some players have to spend their free time, which I absolutely do not condemn.”

In recent days there has been talk of a “super playoff” among some of the best national teams excluded as a result of the qualifiers: the selections most discussed are Italy (best overall ranking among the excluded), Nigeria (best ranking among the Africans), the United Arab Emirates and Bolivia (both out at the last hurdles). However, there are those who are not up for it, feeling further excluded: this is, for example, the case of Cameroon.

In Yaoundé, in fact, there are those who raise their voices, pointing out that the only African national team to end a World Cup without defeat (in Spain 1982, in fact, it obtained three draws that, however, did not earn it qualification to the next stage), as well as the only one, again among Africans, to defeat Brazil in the World Cup, should not be excluded a priori from the repechage discourse, demanding that media and political attention should not focus exclusively on Nigeria.
