The day after winning the 21st Scudetto, Beppe Marotta vindicates the solidity of the Inter project and celebrates the continuity built in recent years: “All in all, Inter has changed little, we have given space to the continuity of a model that we have been carrying forward for a few years. I emphasize that this management, with Ausilio and Baccin, has won three Scudetti with three coaches and two different ownerships.”

Intervening on Radio Anch’Io Sport on Radio1, the Nerazzurri president also explained the decision to entrust the bench to Cristian Chivu after Simone Inzaghi’s farewell, despite the coach’s still limited experience: “With Fabregas there was only a preliminary contract, as with Chivu. Our choice fell on Cristian because he had the characteristics we were looking for, while on the other side there were objective impediments.”

Marotta then reiterated the club’s European ambitions, without hiding regret for missed opportunities: “Champions is an extraordinary goal that everyone would like to win, unfortunately I have made four finals lost with two different teams. I would love to win it, but you can’t get everything. For sure, next year we will try to improve our performance in Europe.”

The future of Alessandro Bastoni, who has ended up in the sights of big European clubs, including Barcelona, was also among the topics addressed. “Bastoni? He is a talent, he has been unlucky in certain episodes and events he has had. He was the protagonist of a naivety and the first to notice it was him, we helped him because when a young man makes mistakes it is right to correct him. He is a great champion, there are the eyes of big clubs on him and I do not hide that of Barcelona. But it is an unofficial and not concrete interest, he is our player and he wants to stay. We are happy.”

Finally, a passage on the criticism received on social media, serenely dismissed after the triumph: “In Italy the culture of envy rages but I don’t pay attention to it, my role is public and social media are full of keyboard lions. By now I accept it and move on by making new experiences and trying to improve. I am very calm, this was a historic feat of all of Inter and we enjoy this moment.”
