Milan market, Massimiliano Allegri’s future no longer certain: scenarios

According to many rumors about the possible future arrival in the Rossoneri of players that Massimiliano Allegri likes, the possibility that the Tuscan coach himself will be the one to change air is now taking shape. His existing contract armors him at the Diavolo, since in the event of Champions League qualification an automatic renewal is triggered until 2028. But the largely faltering results of the past two months, combined with the sirens coming from the national team, could revolutionize the picture. And the name of the possible successor has already emerged.
After all, the numbers speak for themselves: from March 15 onward, when Lazio-Milan was played, the Rossoneri have played 7 Serie A matches, winning just two, drawing the one played at San Siro against Juventus and heavily rejected by critics for a 0-0 completely devoid of emotions, and have lost the other four. The enthusiasm of the square around Max Allegri has definitely waned, but not his blazon at the national level. And in fact he is on the shortlist of names that could take Gennaro Gattuso’s place at the helm of the Italy of tomorrow.
A situation that would be giving the Rossoneri management pause for thought, so much so that according to ‘Il Corriere dello Sport’ the coach destined to take Allegri’s place in the event of a change on the bench has already been identified. It would be Vincenzo Italiano, around whom a completely new project would be built also from the tactical point of view (with the farewell to the 3-5-2 and the return to that 4-2-3-1 that gave so much satisfaction to the Diavolo at the beginning of the century). Even a change could come in the central figure in charge of Milan’s market, with Tony D’Amico who could take over from Igli Tare in the role of sporting director.
Gattuso, after all, has in fact started the race for the Azzurri bench after the resignation presented by the Calabrian coach following the dramatic playoff elimination against Bosnia in Zenica, which excluded Italy from the 2026 World Cup for the third consecutive time. A debacle that deeply marked the Azzurri environment and left “Ringhio” free from any commitment. What’s more, his name has already circulated insistently for other Serie A benches: according to ‘Tuttosport’, Torino owner Urbano Cairo would have a real soft spot for him, so much so that he has hypothesized his hiring with a three-year contract.
On the Milan market front, meanwhile, the Rossoneri management is already working in perspective, regardless of who will sit on the bench next season. One of the main knots concerns the offensive department, which is destined for a real revolution: Fullkrug will not be redeemed, Santiago Gimenez will have to be reevaluated after a season spent in the pits, and Rafael Leão – between whistles at San Siro and an increasingly opaque performance – is no longer considered untouchable. The club would be willing to negotiate his sale for a sum around 50 million euros, considering the summer of 2026 the last useful moment to monetize in a reasonable manner, with the Portuguese’s contract expiring in 2028. A sign of the new direction had also come from the words of Tare himself, who while publicly praising Leão on ‘DAZN’ – “he has incredible potential, maybe he doesn’t even realize it” – had not dispelled doubts about his future in the Rossoneri.
To fill the void that could open up in attack, the profile that convinces the most is that of Gabriel Jesus, 29, who is back from a positive second half of the season at Arsenal after a long stop due to a knee injury. The Brazilian, who in the Gunners’ attack has permanently lost his starting place to Gyökeres, has a contract expiring in 2027 and could represent a market opportunity: the tag is valued at around 20 million euros, a figure considered affordable, even if the knot of the salary – 16 million gross – remains to be unraveled. Also favoring the negotiation is a non-negligible detail: Jesus is assisted by the agency of Giovanni Branchini, the same agent who was decisive for Allegri’s return to the Milan bench. An entanglement that, in a market also made of relationships, could prove to be anything but secondary.
Finally, the situation of Luka Modric should be monitored: the Croatian midfielder, according to the latest rumors, would be considering staying at AC Milan next season as well. At the moment his thoughts are focused on his physical recovery ahead of the World Cup with Croatia, but after the World Cup the former Real Madrid man could decide to extend his adventure in the Rossoneri, having at the moment no alternatives that convince him and finding himself particularly at ease in the Milanese environment. A sign of continuity in a context that, otherwise, appears destined to change profoundly.
