Jannik Sinner started the Italian internationals on the right foot: at the Foro Italico he beat the Austrian Ofner, hitting his 29th consecutive victory in a Masters 1000, a record that allowed him to equal Roger Federer. After the match, the Blue as a usual perfectionist declared that he wanted to “raise the level”-a phrase that provoked a joke from Adriano Panatta on Domenica Sportiva.

“Raise the level? A little more?” the former Italian tennis player said ironically, making everyone in the studio laugh. “Mah, honestly Sinner is enough for him and he’s enough the level he has now to win against everyone. Sinner is an amazing player who never runs into bad days. If he has some small problem, he always solves it.”

“He has a granitic base of play and makes his opponents play at a pace that they can keep for 20 minutes or at most an hour but in the end they inevitably collapse and he always wins.” Panatta praises Sinner’s parents, Hanspeter and Siglinde: “I think a great credit for the growth of this boy is the parents who have always been a great example for him, they let him leave home at 14 and go to work with Piatti who made him a real player. Then he has a killer discipline on the court: you never see him making gestures of stigma on the court.”

Panatta then also talked about Lorenzo Musetti, who outplayed Cerundolo despite physical problems: “I’m sorry that he has some physical problems with his left thigh. He suffered a lot today and was very tried at the end of the match. But he beat Cerundolo who is a really very tough player on clay. If you win against him like that it means you are a real player. And Lorenzo absolutely is.”

The difficulties of Jasmine Paolini, defeated in the third round: “Unfortunately, he is not playing well this year. It’s been a season that things haven’t been going right for him, and he’ll have to find remedies so that he doesn’t lose too much ground against the big champions at the top of the rankings.”
