Serie A, salvation sprint: schedule and scenarios, three teams still in the balance

With still two days to play in the Serie A championship, everything is still open as far as the last relegation to Serie B is concerned after those already arithmetically certified by Pisa and Hellas Verona. The round that has just passed definitively rewarded Fiorentina, which after a nightmarish first half of the season managed to straighten out its season.

Cagliari (which, however, cannot be relegated directly but only after a play-off), Lecce and Cremonese remain in the balance.

The Rossoblù, fresh from the defeat against Udinese, must put another point on the chopping block between the home match with Torino and the away match at the San Siro against AC Milan on the last day. The Fabio Pisacane-coached team can also save itself with two defeats, provided Lecce and Cremonese both do not pick up six points. If that happens instead, Cagliari would be overtaken by Lecce at 38 and joined by Cremonese at 37, and thus forced to play the play-off against the grigiorossi.

Cremonese is the team most at risk of descending to the cadetteria: the team led by Marco Giampaolo, collecting zero to three points, would have a very high probability of direct relegation, while with four points collected in the matches against Udinese and Como it would be saved in case of a collapse of the Salentini, engaged instead against Sassuolo and Genoa. With two wins, on the other hand, it would rise to 37 points and could even save itself directly, should Lecce miss the victory in at least one of the two matches to be played.

Lecce, therefore, cannot hide either and must score at least the same points as Cremonese to save itself. In the event of a tie on points it would be a play-off, while there is a remote chance of overtaking Cagliari with a zero out of two of the islanders and a double win in the last few days.

Charts after 36 games: Cagliari 37 points, Lecce 32, Cremonese 31.
