Formula 1 has concluded the first of two weekends off between the Miami and Canadian GPs, but even though the cars are not on the track there is no shortage of topics for discussion, or in some cases even confrontation. Indeed, Ralf Schumacher’s words towards Lewis Hamilton have reignited the debate: the former German driver, in the latest episode of the podcast “Backstage Boxengasse,” literally infuriated the multi-time world champion’s fans, having in fact invited him to end his career.

“Hamilton is in a better situation than he was last season, but it is not enough to challenge Leclerc in the medium to long term,” Michael’s brother explained. “Hamilton’s greatness should be acknowledged, there are so many extraordinary moments he has had. Perhaps, however, the time has come to finally leave room for the drivers of the new generation.”

For Ralf Schumacher, Hamilton’s cycle can be considered closed: “He has achieved all the goals he set for himself and is destined to remain one of the greatest ever. Everything, however, has an end, and I think there should be a handover at the end of this year. Who in his place? I see Ollie Bearman well, he is the ideal profile to pick up the legacy at Ferrari: he is a talent who, if put in the right conditions, could even put Leclerc in trouble. He deserves an opportunity.”

The former Williams, Jordan and Toyota driver, while confirming Hamilton’s power as a true brand, confirmed the need, in his opinion, to leave a spot open to rejuvenate the grid. Words that did not go unnoticed and triggered the prickly reaction of the many fan clubs of the number 44 on the grid, reigniting the discussion especially on social networks.
