Alexander Zverev is a river in floods after losing to Luciano Darderi at the Internazionali d’Italia in Rome. After wasting four match points, the German tennis player was rematched and beaten 6-0 in the third set by the Azzurro, who will face Rafa Jodar in the next round. After the match Zverev was furious and took it out on the court.

“Darderi played incredible tennis, but I should have won the match in two sets. It was difficult to play on this court. Actually, I think this is the worst tennis court I have ever played on. At junior level, as a pro, in Futures tournaments, not even in practice-I’ve never played on such a poor quality court.”

“I had a match point and the ball went over my head. I had a break ball and the ball bounced funny. Plus, there was a strong wind,” continued the outburst by the world number three, who, on the other hand, did not take it out on the Italian fans. “I have no problem with the Italian fans. I liked them, I find them very energetic. They are passionate about their players, which is absolutely right. They have been fair.”

Zverev after this new disappointment hopes to return to the top for Roland Garros and beat Jannik Sinner: “Now I can rest, recharge and be 100 percent ready for Roland Garros. I will be able to take a couple of days off. I have almost two weeks before my next match, I hope I can make the most of this time. Sinner? I have to believe I can beat him. I have to believe, otherwise I might as well hand him the trophy without even having played the tournament…”.
