After the 1-1 draw in the first leg, marked on Sunday night by the 61′ suspension for bad weather and the conclusion without further cues just under twenty-four hours later, Ascoli and Union Brescia face the last 90 minutes of the season (barring extra time and possible penalties) with the same chances of going to Serie B. The only advantage in the match scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday is the field factor in favor of the Bianconeri, because at the result level, away goals do not count, and the rule is therefore simple: whoever wins goes up a category.

Ascoli made it to the playoffs thanks to the second position it achieved in Group B, just three points behind directly promoted Arezzo. Admitted directly to the second round of the national playoff phase, the Bianconeri club beat Potenza (0-0 in Basilicata, 1-0 at home) and Catania (4-0 at “Del Duca,” painless 2-1 defeat away), before the 1-1 draw at Rigamonti in which Andrea Rizzo Pinna, a 2000-class midfielder of the team led by Francesco Tomei, scored.

Union Brescia also earned direct access to the second round of the national stage thanks to the second position in their grouping, Group A, with a far greater distance from champion Vicenza (20 points difference at the end of the championship). Eugenio Corini’s team defeated first Casarano (3-0 in Salento, 0-0 in Brescia) and then Salernitana (1-1 at Arechi, 2-0 at home) to qualify for the finals. In the first leg, the biancazzurro scorer was Valerio Crespi, a class of 2004 forward who arrived in the winter from Avellino.
