Fabio Grosso bids farewell to Sassuolo and moves to Florence: the 2006 world champion, who drew applause for his experience on the bench of the neroverdi, which led to promotion to Serie A and a quiet salvation last season, has signed a two-year contract with Fiorentina.

Here is the announcement from the purple club: “ACF Fiorentina announces that Fabio Grosso is the new coach of the purple first team. Born in Rome on Nov. 28, 1977, Grosso began his coaching career in 2013 in the Juventus Youth Sector. He made his debut at the helm of a First Team in 2017, on the bench of Bari in Serie B. During his career, the new purple coach has also coached, among others, Olympique Lyon, Frosinone and Sassuolo, achieving two promotions from Serie B to Serie A and reaching, during the last season at the helm of the neroverdi, the eleventh place in the standings as a newly promoted team.”

“The whole Fiorentina is pleased to welcome with great enthusiasm a World Champion and a coach who has from his competence, freshness and enthusiasm: welcome Mister Fabio Grosso! The new purple coach has signed a contract until June 30, 2028.” The former Azzurro will take the place of Paolo Vanoli: the goal is to redeem last disappointing season. “I thank the whole club, especially President Giuseppe Commisso and his mother Catherine for entrusting me with the technical guidance of Fiorentina. I am really happy to be able to take this extraordinary opportunity.”

“I arrive in a prestigious club, with a passionate fan base and a city that lives soccer with great intensity. I never like to make promises, but aware of the responsibilities that await me, I feel from the start that I can guarantee seriousness, professionalism and involvement in building a team that has courage and ambition. I am genuinely excited and can’t wait to get started.” Grosso will earn 1.2 million euros per year.
