F1, Fernando Alonso, and the news no one wanted to hear

The Barcelona Grand Prix is scheduled for this weekend. Fernando Alonso heads into the race having scored his first World Championship point in Monte Carlo, but also knowing that his Aston Martin isn’t up to the task of competing for top results.

I won’t be competitive. I won’t be very present in qualifying, and I’ll be there in the race, but at a slower pace. It’s a special race, and this last time it will be particularly special,” explained the 44-year-old Spaniard, a two-time World Champion who has been searching for years for a way to return to the forefront of F1.

The Asturian went further: “I haven’t made up my mind yet. After the summer, I’ll decide whether to continue or not. However, the Barcelona race won’t be held next year, so there’s a high probability that this could be my last race here,” he said, as reported by Marca.

In short, Fernando Alonso has dropped a bombshell. It will most likely be his last appearance in his home Grand Prix. True, there won’t be a race in Barcelona next year (it’s been decided to alternate with Spa), but the feeling is that the Asturian might even decide to call it quits next year, especially if the current season continues to be a nightmare.
