Jannik Sinner is training in Monte Carlo ahead of his return to the court at Wimbledon, where he hopes to defend the title he won last season and, at the same time, make up for the disappointment of his early exit at Roland Garros. Serena Williams will also likely be in London; she returned to the court at age 44 and immediately won her opening match in the doubles tournament alongside Canadian Victoria Mboko. The Italian champion and the American star will thus be among the most anticipated players at the event, so much so that a rumor involving them has been circulating wildly on social media in recent days.

According to the rumor, Jannik Sinner and Serena Williams will team up in the upcoming mixed doubles tournament at the US Open, scheduled for late August at Flushing Meadows in New York. Once again this year, the organizers of the fourth Grand Slam of the year will give the event significant prominence; it will feature a substantial prize pool and will see the participation of several top-ranked players in both the women’s and men’s draws.

The mutual respect between Sinner and Serena is well known: just a year ago, the Italian had asked to play in the mixed doubles tournament with the American champion, who at the time could not yet return to the court due to anti-doping protocols requiring approximately six months for reinstatement on the tour. And Serena herself has on several occasions expressed her admiration for the South Tyrolean’s tennis.

However, the rumors remain just that: at the moment, there is no confirmation of a possible and intriguing partnership between the world number one and the 24-time Grand Slam winner.

It is confirmed, however, that the champion from Sesto Pusteria will participate in the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic, the prestigious exhibition tournament held on the grass courts of London’s exclusive Hurlingham Club, a traditional warm-up event for Wimbledon. Joining him will be Luciano Darderi and Flavio Cobolli. For Sinner, this is a strategic choice: an opportunity to regain confidence on grass and test his physical condition following the issue that affected his performance at Roland Garros, where he was eliminated by Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
