Brazil and Morocco have confirmed their status as the two strongest teams in Group C of the 2026 World Cup: on the second matchday of the group stage, the Seleção defeated Haiti 3-0, while the Atlas Lions beat Scotland 1-0. Both teams now lead the group and have already secured their spots in the World Cup round of 16.

Ancelotti’s Brazil secured a convincing victory over the Caribbean side, partially making up for the disappointment of their opening-match draw with Morocco. The Seleção still lacks the fluidity its demanding fans would like to see, but it dominated a team focused primarily on defense. Midway through the first half, the five-time world champions took the lead: in the 23rd minute, a play by Vinicius created a scramble in the box, and Matheus Cunha provided the decisive touch to put Brazil ahead.

With the 1-0 lead, the Verdeoro played more freely, and in the 36th minute, Cunha doubled the lead with a great left-footed shot off an assist from Vinicius. Late in the half, Vinicius made it 3-0 to seal Brazil’s victory, assisted by Paquetà. The only downside of the evening for Ancelotti was Raphinha’s injury, which forced him off the field during the first half. In the second half, Brazil opted to manage the game and conserve energy: Endrick came on but had a goal disallowed for offside.

Morocco’s victory over Scotland was harder-fought but well-deserved. The North African team demonstrated its strength by dictating the pace against the British side, even if it lacked finishing in front of the goal. The Atlas Lions opened the scoring just two minutes in with Saibari, who had also found the net in their first match against Brazil. The future Bayern Munich player scored a stunning goal after a solo run, immediately putting Morocco in the lead.

Scotland struggled to respond and create chances; the team’s stars—particularly midfielder McTominay—failed to make an impact. Morocco, on the other hand, created a flurry of chances but squandered them through El Khannouss and Brahim Diaz. In the second half, Saibari hit the crossbar. Only in the closing minutes of the match did Scotland manage to make a comeback in attack thanks to the Moroccans’ physical decline, and they had a chance with McTominay in the final moments.
