The Giro Next Gen is in Italian for the first time in fifteen years

The 2026 Giro d’Italia Next Gen concluded in L’Aquila with the victory of Lorenzo Mark Finn, a rising star from the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe Rookies team, who dominated the race and also won the final stage, a 22.2-km time trial from Villa Sant’Angelo to the capital of Abruzzo. Finn secured his overall victory with a solid and consistent performance, finishing first in the general classification ahead of Mateo Ramirez (UAE Team Emirates Gen Z), who trailed by 2’10”, and Henrique Bravo Ribeiro (Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team), who came in third at 2’35”.
The rider from Avegno capped off his Giro by winning the Maglia Tricolore, reserved for the top Italian riders. The other classifications went to Davide Donati (points classification), Mattie Dodd (King of the Mountains), and Javier Cubillas (born in 2007). In the final time trial, Finn confirmed his dominance by finishing in 29’03” at an average speed of nearly 49 km/h, ahead of Adam Rafferty and Matisse Van Kerckhove.
Finn is the first Italian to win the Giro Next Gen since the race adopted this name: in fact, to find the last Italian victory, one must go back to 2011, when Mattia Cattaneo won the general classification of the Girobio. The race, which began as the Giro d’Italia for amateurs in 1970, boasts a roll of honor that includes, among others, winners of the caliber of Francesco Moser, Marco Pantani, Gilberto Simoni, and, more recently, Tom Pidcock and Juan Ayuso.
