From Ruvo, a slap in the face for Virtus Roma (and Brescia?)

Another disappointment for Virtus Roma 1960. After failing twice to earn promotion to A2 on the court, the Rome-based club has also seen its chance to reach the second division through the acquisition of Ruvo di Puglia’s sports license slip away. Thus, while new teams are taking shape in the Italian top flight in the capital thanks to the projects led by Doncic & Nelson and Matiasic, the club led by Massimiliano Pasqualini will once again have to start over in Serie B.

Among the clubs interested in Ruvo di Puglia’s sports license was Virtus Roma, which was ready to invest approximately 2.5 million euros to acquire the Apulian club’s sports rights—a team currently competing in the A2 league. The deal would have resulted in Ruvo’s promotion to Serie B, thereby reducing the investment needed to compete in the upcoming season.

The agreement seemed on the verge of being finalized, but on the evening of Monday, June 29, there was a dramatic twist. In a live social media broadcast, the Apulian club announced that it had rejected two proposals considered financially very significant, including the one presented by Virtus Roma (the other likely from Brescia).

“Pursuing this dream requires a significant financial effort. We have done our part; now we hope for the support of local residents and businesses,” explained Ruvo’s executives, thus confirming their intention to continue their journey in A2.
