Tour 2026: Isaac Del Toro celebrates as Tadej Pogacar escorts him to the finish line. Jonas Vingegaard retains the yellow jersey

Isaac del Toro won the second stage of the 2026 Tour de France, a 168.5-kilometer route starting in Tarragona and finishing in Barcelona, entirely within Spanish territory and featuring a triple final climb up Montjuic, which did not shake up the standings as much as had been expected the day before.
The Mexican rider from UAE Team Emirates XRG won the stage, edging out his Slovenian teammate Tadej Pogacar (who crossed the finish line alongside him, celebrating with him) in a tight sprint, Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), and Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike). Vingegaard retains the yellow jersey: he holds a six-second lead over Pogacar, a fifteen-second lead over Evenepoel, and a sixteen-second lead over Del Toro.
Davide Piganzoli, who finished 27th, 1’10” behind, was the first Italian to cross the finish line. The 23-year-old from Morbegno is also the top Italian in the general classification, where he sits in 16th place, 1’38” behind his teammate, this year’s Giro d’Italia winner.
The Tour peloton is now preparing to return to French territory: on Monday, the riders face a challenging stage that will take them from Granollers, in Catalonia, to Les Angles, a town in the Eastern Pyrenees. The 195.9-kilometer route will provide further clues regarding the general classification in a Tour that could already hold a few surprises.
