Ready to begin his coaching adventure with Pallacanestro Cantù, Frank Vitucci spoke to “La Provincia” about the Brianza-based club’s transfer market prospects, outlining the team’s needs ahead of a season in which the club aims to improve on the 14th-place finish it achieved last season.

“The recent shocking developments in Serie A—with new situations raising the bar and the average budget level—call for serious reflection,” said the Venetian coach, who won the Serie A2 championship last year with Scafati. “Seven or eight teams have raised their level; we’re in the other group.”

Following the re-signings of Moraschini and Okeke, which were followed by the signings of Christon and Brown, Vitucci has a clear idea of what else is needed: “It’s time to bring in three key players for the starting lineup, plus a big man off the bench to back up the ‘4’ and, perhaps, even the ‘5’. These four players will be the ones who need to make the difference in the roster we’ll put together.”

Vitucci also confirmed that the team’s training camp will begin on August 16, though the club is willing to open the gym to registered players in the days leading up to that date. This will be followed by a training camp in Valtellina, while the schedule for exhibition games is still being finalized, partly due to developments in Italian basketball and the loss of two Lombardy-based clubs—Vanili Cremona and Brescia—whose sports franchises were acquired by Roma SPQR and Maxima Roma in recent weeks.
