Marc Marquez Takes a Step Toward the Title in the Sachsenring Sprint Race

Marc Marquez delivered a flawless performance to win the Sprint Race at the 2026 German Grand Prix, the eleventh round of the MotoGP World Championship, held on the twisty Sachsenring circuit. On a track where he has dominated time and again over the years, the Spanish champion once again demonstrated his special connection with the circuit, prevailing at the end of the short race and sending a strong message in the title race.
Starting from pole position on the factory Ducati, Marquez maintained the lead from the start, managing the pace with authority and giving his pursuers no opportunities. This victory carries even greater weight in the championship race, thanks to the absence of Marco Bezzecchi—who was forced to sit out the weekend after fracturing his collarbone, an injury that will require surgery—and a lackluster performance by championship leader Jorge Martin.
Finishing behind the eight-time world champion was his brother Alex Marquez, who delivered another convincing performance on the Gresini Ducati. Rounding out an all-Ducati podium was Fabio Di Giannantonio, who continues to show increasing consistency and competitiveness on the VR46 team’s bike. Just off the podium were the surprising Aprilia Trackhouse bikes ridden by Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez, who put in solid races. Jorge Martin, however, finished only sixth; riding the factory Aprilia, he was never able to get into the fight for the top positions. Francesco Bagnaia had an even tougher Sprint, finishing only seventh on the factory Ducati and well off the pace of the leaders.
Rounding out the points were Pedro Acosta, eighth on the KTM, and Fabio Quartararo, ninth on the Yamaha, while Diogo Moreira closed out the top 10 on the Honda. Attention now shifts to Sunday’s race, which will start with the same grid order determined by qualifying. In the traditional Grand Prix, contested over a distance of approximately 110 kilometers, Marquez will aim to secure back-to-back wins in front of the Sachsenring crowd, while his rivals will seek redemption in one of the most anticipated rounds of the season.
