Jannik Sinner heads into the final at Wimbledon—where he’ll face Alexander Zverev—with the clarity of someone who knows he’s facing a massive opportunity. In terms of Grand Slams, his exits in the semifinals at the Australian Open and in the second round at Roland Garros seem like they belong to another era: the world No. 1 has put the pieces back together, regained his rhythm and confidence, and in London has built a run that has taken him to his second consecutive final at the Championships.

His semifinal victory over Novak Djokovic, handled with incredible composure, was a testament to his current form. His first major goal is clear: to win two consecutive Wimbledon titles, a feat achieved by only nine players in the Open Era—an exclusive club that includes figures who have defined (and, in the most recent cases, are still defining) modern tennis: Rod Laver, Björn Borg, John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, Carlos Alcaraz, and Djokovic himself.

The final against Zverev could also give Sinner his 100th victory in Grand Slam singles matches. The Italian star’s journey through the most important tournaments on the tennis calendar began in 2020, when he defeated Max Purcell in Melbourne, while his 99th victory came on Friday against Djokovic. The next win could mean another title at Wimbledon: a perfect way to close one chapter and open another.

Alexander Zverev, however, is no easy opponent, despite Sinner’s 10-4 head-to-head record against him. “Sascha” is coming off a Roland Garros title; he has found consistency and solidity, and in recent weeks has shown steady improvement. Sinner has figured out how to neutralize the German’s game, so much so that he has won the last nine meetings, dominating the most recent one—the 2026 Miami Open final: 6-1, 6-2 was the final score of a match that highlighted a significant gap between the two.

Zverev, however, remains a threat, especially in long matches, and has already stated that he does not feel at all like an underdog. The grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club have often produced surprises, and Sinner will have to draw on all his energy, showcasing his skills from start to finish, to make history in this sport once again.
