MotoGP Germany: Marc Marquez Caps a Dominant Weekend; The Rest Are Left with the Crumbs

Pole position, a win in the Sprint, and victory in Sunday’s Grand Prix: Marc Marquez’s weekend at the Sachsenring was perfect and has definitively propelled the Catalan Ducati rider up the overall standings, where he now stands at 190 points: Ahead of him in the standings are only Ai Ogura with 193 points and championship leader Jorge Martin, who, however, had to settle for fifth place on his factory Aprilia, bringing his total to 208 points.
It was impossible, however, to replicate the all-Ducati podium from the Sprint race: both Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Racing Team) were, through no fault of their own, involved in a crash that took them out of the race. Ogura and Raul Fernandez, both riding Trackhouse Racing Aprilias, therefore finished in second and third place.
Behind the leading trio, an excellent Pedro Acosta finished in fourth place; despite physical issues, he brought his KTM to the foot of the podium, finishing ahead of the current World Championship leader. Behind Martin was Pecco Bagnaia, sixth on his Ducati, who was involved in a thrilling but ultimately fruitless battle with the rider he rivaled in the 2024 World Championship. Also in the Top 10 were Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), Luca Marini (Honda), Enea Bastianini (KTM), and Brad Binder (KTM).
The MotoGP World Championship now takes a break of nearly a month: the next race weekend will be August 7–9, with the riders competing in the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit. Last year, the British round took place in May, with Alex Marquez winning the Sprint race and Marco Bezzecchi winning the Sunday race; Bezzecchi is absent today due to a collarbone injury that required surgery following a nasty crash during Saturday’s qualifying session.
