Cuadrado Responds to Juventus Fans: “Inter? It Wasn’t a Betrayal”

Over 300 appearances in a Juventus jersey, eight years as a key player, and then that departure that left a lasting impact. Juan Cuadrado, now looking for a new home after his most recent stints in Serie A with Atalanta and Pisa, has spoken again about his career in Italy and, above all, the end of his time with Juventus.

In an interview with DSports, the Colombian winger, born in 1988, looked back on some of the most significant moments of his time in Italy, also reflecting on his transfer to Inter in the summer of 2023. That decision sparked a reaction from fans of both teams and remains, even today, one of the most talked-about moves of his career.

Cuadrado proudly defended his time in Turin, emphasizing the significance of the more than 300 games he played for Juventus. “At Juve, I was captain; I made history with Juventus by playing over 300 games. It’s a milestone that not even many Italian players have reached. When I see that number, it’s a source of great pride.”

Then came the chapter on his departure, which occurred after eight seasons in black and white. Cuadrado explained that his contract had expired, leaving him a free agent, and that he found himself needing to evaluate other opportunities. “After eight years, I was a free agent, and many considered my move to Inter a betrayal. But when you’re out of a job, you have to look for other options.”

The Colombian then clarified an aspect that, according to his account, played a decisive role in his departure from Juventus. In fact, his initial plan had not been to change teams. “I didn’t want to leave. They had offered me a contract extension, but then they didn’t follow through.”
