Mass brawl breaks out during the game; dozens of police officers intervene

There were moments of extreme tension during the English League Cup match between Wolverhampton and Port Vale: an argument broke out in the stands between some fans of the two teams, and the situation escalated. Tempers flared and harsh words were exchanged, followed by a physical altercation.

Police officers at the stadium, along with stewards, intervened immediately to break up the brawl, and it took several minutes for tensions to subside: “We are aware of an incident in the stands during last night’s match and will work closely with Wolverhampton Wanderers and the relevant authorities to ascertain the facts of the matter,” Port Vale wrote in a statement.

“We take matters of this nature seriously and will consider any appropriate action once the facts have been established,” concludes the statement released by the club based in Stoke-on-Trent, a town in northwestern England just over 250 kilometers from London.

Port Vale, a club in the fourth and lowest professional division of the English league, was defeated by Wolverhampton 3-0. Adam Armstrong opened the scoring, followed by a goal from André Trindade, and, just a few minutes before halftime, Fer Lopez sealed the victory with the third goal.
