Juventus Transfer Market: Luciano Spalletti Weighs In on Di Gregorio
The goalkeeper issue continues to dominate the headlines at Juventus, even in Perth, where the Bianconeri are preparing to face Palermo in a friendly match. Luciano Spalletti is aware that managing the number 1 position is a delicate matter, but on the eve of the match, he’s trying to put the issue into perspective and explain the coaching staff’s decisions.
“In my opinion, Di Gregorio made some saves worthy of praise in the first half against Inter. Then he was unlucky on the second goal. This time Perin is playing because it’s something we’d already planned in advance. More than two matches: one half for each, a second half for each,” explained the Juventus coach.
The situation involving Federico Gatti is also making headlines; he is another player linked to a possible transfer and on the radar of Massimiliano Allegri’s Napoli. Spalletti, however, clarified that the defender will not start against Palermo. “Gatti won’t start because he’s fatigued, so we’ll see later if we need him or not. We’re looking at 20 minutes, half an hour of play—no more.”
On the transfer front, however, the Juventus coach reiterated that the club has not changed its strategy from the initial plans. “We’ve had the same ideas since the start of the transfer window. After playing these matches, we’ve confirmed our original plans, so we’re moving forward on our path.”
Before thinking about transfer negotiations, however, there’s Pippo Inzaghi’s Palermo to face. Spalletti had words of praise for the Palermo coach, highlighting his personal and professional qualities. “He’ll certainly become a top coach, because he was a champion as a player, and besides, he’s someone I know well. He’s a very humble person who knows how to make the most of his traits—his tenacity and his drive to get as many points as possible. He has players who’ve all played in Serie A, so they know their craft inside and out, and it’ll be a tough match,” Spalletti concluded in an interview with Sky.
