Roma Transfer Market: A Key “Yes” for the Wingback Position
With a season that promises to be very challenging on the horizon, Roma continues to work on strengthening its wings and is pursuing two targets: Luis Henrique of Inter and Destiny Udogie of Tottenham. The combined valuation of the two wingers is around 30 million euros, although the Giallorossi are said to have already reached an agreement with Inter for the Brazilian at around 28 million.
The main sticking point concerns the structure of the deal. Roma aims to defer most of the investment until next season, thereby avoiding having to pay the full amount immediately. Inter might be open to this solution, provided certain conditions are met. Before moving forward, however, they need Luis Henrique’s approval, and he has not yet given his consent to the transfer to the capital.
The Udogie deal is simpler, at least in terms of the player’s willingness. The Tottenham fullback has reportedly welcomed Roma’s interest with enthusiasm, immediately expressing his full willingness to wear the Giallorossi jersey.
As for Inter, the sale of Luis Henrique is closely tied to their plans to sign a new fullback. The Nerazzurri are in fact nearing a deal for Tottenham’s Djed Spence, a right-back born in 2000 who is expected to move to Milan for approximately 30 million euros and take over from Denzel Dumfries, who joined Real Madrid last July. Not surprisingly, the Spence deal itself has helped open a direct channel of communication between Inter and Tottenham—the very club from which Roma is also trying to sign Udogie.
The need to strengthen the wing had, in fact, been anticipated by Chivu himself in recent weeks: “We have three wingers now—actually, three and a half, since Carlos could play there. I prefer him as a third winger, though. And depending on how we view Luis Henrique—whether on the right or the left—we’re still missing one. The transfer window is still open for a while; we need to be patient and choose wisely.” These words accurately capture just how closely every move at Inter is interconnected with the others.
