Vero Volley Milano, a complete overhaul: Gianlorenzo Blengini’s arrival is official

Gianlorenzo Blengini is the new head coach of Numia Vero Volley Milano. President Alessandra Marzari and sports director Claudio Bonati welcomed the 54-year-old coach from Piedmont, who brings with him a track record of 11 titles won throughout his career with both club and national teams.

Currently the head coach of the Bulgarian men’s national team, Blengini will begin working with the coaching staff and the team following the European Championship, scheduled for August and September. He will be joined by Massimo Caponeri and Nicola Daldello as assistant coaches, while Paolo Perrone will serve as scout.

Born in Turin on December 29, 1971, “Chicco” Blengini began his career over 25 years ago, training first under Mauro Berruto and later under Julio Velasco. With them, he gained valuable experience coaching in Turin, Piacenza, Modena, and Montichiari. In 2009, he took on his first head coaching role in Santa Croce, Tuscany, where he won the A2 Italian Cup. In 2014, he joined the staff of the men’s senior national team alongside Berruto, before subsequently taking on the role of head coach.

His most prestigious achievements came while coaching the national team and with Lube, where he joined in 2015. His list of achievements includes three Scudetti and one Italian Cup won with the Civitanova club, as well as three silver medals and one bronze medal earned at the Olympic Games, World Championships, European Championships, and World Cup. Since 2024, Blengini has also coached Bulgaria, further enriching his career. In 2025, he was also honored in Bulgaria as Coach of the Year across all sports. Now, a new challenge awaits “Chicco” on the bench of Numia Vero Volley Milano, with the goal of bringing his experience, winning mentality, and ambition to a team poised to compete at the highest levels in Italy and Europe.
