Milan Transfer Market: A Former Rossonero Rejects Leao; Player and Club Disappointed
Mian, buoyed by a winning league opener (a 2-1 victory on the road against Torino, led by former player Ignazio Abate), is preparing to face the final days of the transfer window with Rafael Leao’s future still unresolved. The Portuguese forward is now on the fringes of the first-team squad and, despite not dealing with any significant physical issues, continues to train separately from the rest of the team. His agent, Jorge Mendes, is working to find a new destination, with a particular focus on the Premier League.
The scenario that has gained the most traction in recent hours is a move to Aston Villa. Discussions with Milan have become more frequent, and the two clubs have begun concrete talks regarding a possible transfer. However, a gap remains regarding the price: the Rossoneri value Leao at between 50 and 60 million euros and do not seem willing, at least for now, to offer a discount. The Villans have expressed interest but are reportedly looking to invest a lower amount than what Milan is asking for.
Mendes has also sounded out Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham, which has been particularly active in the transfer market. Leao’s name, however, reportedly did not receive unanimous approval within the London club—a disappointment for both Milan and the player. The Brescia native, as many of a certain age will recall, came up through the Rossoneri’s youth system.
In the background remains Al Hilal, which has made a very generous offer. The Portuguese player, however, does not seem inclined to move to Saudi Arabia and would prefer to continue playing in Europe, possibly in the English league.
The Galatasaray option hasn’t been ruled out either. The Turkish club had already put approximately 35 million euros on the table, including bonuses, with the possibility of raising the offer to 40 million. However, Milan rejected the proposal, continuing to consider 50 million guaranteed as the minimum threshold for considering a transfer.
