Bradley Barcola, Liverpool Ready to Shell Out 120 Million: Here’s Who He’ll Join in the Mega-Transfer Club (There’s Also an Italian)
With just a few days left before the summer transfer window closes, Liverpool has found Mohamed Salah’s successor: Bradley Barcola, for whose transfer the Reds are ready to invest a total of 120 million euros (including bonuses), thus bringing the French international into the very exclusive group of players acquired for 100 million euros or more—a group that officially includes twenty-three other players.
The most expensive transfer of all time remains Neymar’s move from Barcelona to PSG in 2017: the Parisian club paid 222 million euros, though its strategy at the time was quite different from the one that led it to dominate in Europe in the years that followed. In second place is another PSG signing, Kylian Mbappé: 180 million found its way into Monaco’s coffers, also in the summer of 2017. Rounding out the top three is Alexander Isak, whom Liverpool acquired from Newcastle United in 2025 for 144.5 million.
The next two spots are occupied by transfers completed this year: 137.3 million to bring Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa to Chelsea, and 135.5 million for Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City. In sixth place overall—and first among La Liga transfers—is the 2019 deal that brought João Félix from Benfica to Atlético Madrid for 126 million, one more than what Real Madrid spent this year on Yan Diomandé from Leipzig.
Enzo Fernández has “slipped” to eighth place, having moved from Benfica to Chelsea for 121 million euros in 2023, while Antoine Griezmann remains in the top 10 with his 2019 transfer (which was later disavowed in subsequent years) from Atlético Madrid to Barcelona for 120 million euros. Tenth place goes to Philippe Coutinho, who moved from Liverpool to Barcelona in 2018 for 118.4 million.
Next on the special list, from eleventh to fifteenth place, are Jack Grealish (from Aston Villa to Manchester City for 117.7 million in 2021), Florian Wirtz (from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool for 117.5 million in 2025), Declan Rice (from West Ham to rival Arsenal for 116.5 million in 2023), Moises Caicedo (from Brighton to Chelsea for 116.3 million in the same year), and Romelu Lukaku (from Inter to Chelsea for 115 million in 2021).
In sixteenth place is the only Italian on this very unique list: Sandro Tonali, who in recent weeks moved from Newcastle United to Tottenham for 108.1 million euros. Behind him are Ousmane Dembélé (from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona in 2017) and Paul Pogba (from Juventus to Manchester United the year before), both transferred for 105 million, and Jude Bellingham, who moved from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid in 2023 for 103 million.
Rounding out the quartet of players who transferred for exactly 100 million are: Eden Hazard from Chelsea to Real Madrid in 2019, Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid to Juventus in 2018 (the only three-figure transfer by a Serie A club), Harry Kane from Tottenham to Bayern in 2023, and Gareth Bale from Tottenham to Real Madrid ten years earlier.
