Trieste-Markel Brown: Agent Speaks—The Situation Couldn’t Be More Bleak

The situation involving Markel Brown has reached a turning point after weeks of tension. The player’s entourage has decided to break its silence and publicly present its version of events, challenging what has emerged so far from the statements made by Pallacanestro Trieste and General Manager Michael Arcieri.

Brian Jungreis, the American forward’s agent, spoke out in an interview with *Il Piccolo*, describing the situation that has arisen as “baffling” and seeking to clarify his client’s perspective.

According to Jungreis, in recent weeks the club’s version of events has dominated the narrative: “Much of the media coverage, both locally and nationally, has come primarily from the club’s side. I wanted to offer a different perspective. Although Markel is still under contract, given the current situation and the way it has been handled, we have no intention of bringing him back to Trieste this season.”

This clear-cut stance seems to further rule out the possibility of seeing Brown back in a Trieste jersey this season.

The split seems all the more shocking considering the atmosphere of trust that had characterized the previous months. Brown was among the very first to have his contract renewed, along with Candussi, Ruzzier, and Deangeli, and head coach Francesco Taccetti himself, upon announcing his own contract extension, had explicitly cited him as one of the pillars on which to build the new season. Words that today ring in stark contrast to the reality of the situation.

Signs of a possible rift had actually emerged as early as the summer. In early July, both Pallacanestro Cantù—as part of the new coaching project led by Coach Frank Vitucci—and APU Old Wild West Udine had tested the waters for Brown, identifying him as the ideal reinforcement for their perimeter lineup. In both cases, however, negotiations stalled due to his existing contract with Trieste and a request for a salary increase deemed unsustainable.
