Serie B: Why the Avellino-Palermo Match Was Postponed—The New Schedule

Schedule Change for Avellino vs. Palermo: The match between Avellino and Palermo, part of the third matchday of the Serie B season and scheduled for Sunday, September 13, at the Partenio-Adriano Lombardi Stadium, will no longer kick off at 3:00 p.m.; kickoff has been moved to 5:15 p.m. This was announced in an official statement from Lega B.
“”2026/2027 Serie BKT Championship – Change in Kickoff Time for Avellino vs. Palermo (Matchday 4)
The President of the Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie B,
▪ having taken into account Article 27.2 of the LNPB Statute;
▪ as a partial amendment to LNPB Circular No. 8 of July 28;
hereby orders
that the schedule for Matchday 4 of the 2026/2027 Serie BKT Championship be revised as follows:
Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 5:15 p.m. AVELLINO – PALERMO
(instead of Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.)”.
The decision was prompted by the medical emergency last Sunday involving Pisa midfielder Rosen Bozhoniv, who collapsed on the field during the match in Castellamre di Stabia against Juve Stabia. The Nerazzurri player, suffering from the extreme heat, nearly lost consciousness due to dehydration and was taken to the hospital. Controversy and criticism immediately erupted on social media over the choice of kickoff time, which was made without taking into account the sweltering heat that has also characterized this September.
Avellino currently sits in fifth place in the standings with 6 points, while Palermo remains in first place with a perfect record of three wins in three games.
