Jannik Sinner, No. 1 in Jeopardy: The Math Behind the Top Spot in the Rankings
Jannik Sinner needs to start looking over his shoulder. If Alexander Zverev reaches the US Open final, he’ll tie the Italian at 7,950 points in the Race. If, on the other hand, he were to win the title in New York, the German would climb to 8,650 points, entering October with the best chance of finishing the season as the world No. 1.
Zverev’s advantage would be even more significant when looking at the actual rankings: Sinner will have to defend 3,550 points, while the German will only have 1,080 to defend. This difference could prove decisive in the final stretch, considering that the Shanghai and Paris Masters 1000 tournaments, a couple of ATP 500 events, and—most importantly—the ATP Finals in Turin are still on the schedule.
Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner made an important announcement: through his Foundation, he has signed a two-year partnership agreement with UNICEF to support the right to education for nearly 100,000 children living in situations of humanitarian crises and conflict.

We deeply believe in the importance of offering children—even in the most difficult situations—opportunities to continue learning, growing, and developing their potential,” said Christina Tauber, Director of the Jannik Sinner Foundation. “Through the UNICEF kits, we want to help create spaces where children can learn, play, and be active,” Especially in times of crisis, alongside education, play and physical activity are also essential: they provide children with moments of serenity, promote their mental and physical well-being, and can help them cope with particularly complex and traumatic experiences.”
The partnership with the Jannik Sinner Foundation aims to strengthen UNICEF’s ability to respond rapidly to emergencies, particularly in the education sector, by setting up temporary learning spaces in areas where school infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed and by making educational kits available for distribution even in the most remote areas, conflict zones, and disaster-stricken territories.
