It’s a time for evaluation and reflection at Catanzaro following the heavy home loss to Mantova. Giorgio Gorgone’s future on the Giallorossi bench appears increasingly uncertain, so much so that the club is reportedly already considering some possible alternatives in the event of his dismissal. The name at the top of the list is reportedly Michele Mignani, who could be offered a contract through the end of the season, with an option to renew for the next season contingent on the team avoiding relegation. Among the possible solutions, the possibility of a return by Fabio Caserta also remains on the table, while Leonardo Semplici’s candidacy appears less likely.

The team’s position in the standings makes a decision urgent: Catanzaro currently has 3 points and sits at the bottom of the table alongside Juve Stabia—which has been penalized 4 points—in a Serie B league where Palermo leads with 16 points. Mantova, the opponent that handed the Giallorossi their defeat, occupies a respectable 11th-place position, confirming the technical gap that emerged during the match.

Gorgone, who previously managed Pescara during the 2025–2026 season, is well acquainted with the challenges of leading a struggling team in Serie B. With the Abruzzo-based team, he had gone through difficult times, spending a long period in the lower reaches of the standings, and his experience in crisis situations is one of the factors the Giallorossi club is evaluating as it decides whether to place further trust in him or proceed with a change.

Michele Mignani’s profile, however, seems to be the one that most convinces the Calabrian management. The coach, who managed Cesena during the 2025–2026 season, is currently a free agent and would represent an experienced solution to attempt a return to the top flight. It’s worth noting that during that very season, Mignani was suspended for one match by the Disciplinary Committee for vehemently contesting a referee’s decision—an incident that attests to his combative nature and emotional investment in his work.

Fabio Caserta also remains a viable option. The coach, who led Empoli in the second half of the 2025–2026 season in an effort to avoid relegation, has demonstrated his ability to work in high-pressure situations, striving to instill in the team the mindset needed to fight for survival. His availability and knowledge of Serie B make him a credible candidate to take over the Catanzaro bench.

As previously mentioned, the possibility of Leonardo Semplici is less likely; his last coaching stint was with Sampdoria during the 2024–2025 season, where he was fired midway through the season along with sporting director Pietro Accardi. Since then, the coach has not found a permanent position, and while his candidacy has not been completely ruled out, it currently appears less viable than the other options on the Giallorossi club’s table.
