Venezia wins in Palermo and breathes, Rosanero mocked
Crucial win on one hand, knockout that may weigh heavily on the other.
Venezia routs the Barbera and wins 1-0 on the field of a Palermo whose ranking at this point becomes increasingly worrying. In fact, the Rosanero remain on 15 points and are now in the playout zone, while the Lagunari rise to 12, who after three defeats in a row now see the salvation venture less complicated.
In the first half there was no shortage of flare-ups by both teams, but the real flashes occurred in the second half. In fact, in the 49th minute, the referee awarded a penalty to Brunori after a contact with Joronen in the box on Candela’s bungling. However, the maximum penalty is revoked by the referee. On 65′ then came the winning goal for Venezia, with Pohjanpalo taking advantage of Candela’s own initiative and beating Pigliacelli.
There was no shortage of chances to equalize, however, for Palermo, which as early as 69′ could take advantage of another penalty, this time awarded for a hand in the box on Di Mariano’s initiative. Brunori, however, misses the conversion. In the 83′ then it was Bettella who dumped the ball into the net, but again Palermo’s equalizer was not there: the Var did not validate for an offside by Soleri.
