Tennis Italy prepares for United Cup: Matteo Berrettini is also there
There is also Matteo Berrettini in the list of eight representatives of the Italian team engaged in the United Cup, a tournament for mixed national teams scheduled in Australia from December 29 to January 8.
The current No. 2 Italian tennis player (who is 16th in the world rankings behind Jannik Sinner, who is recovering from injury and will not be in Australia) leads the Italian patrol also composed of Lorenzo Musetti, Andrea Vavassori, Marco Bortolotti, Martina Trevisan, Lucia Bronzetti, Camilla Rosatello and Nuria Brancaccio. For Berrettini himself, it will be an important opportunity for revenge after the bitter disappointment of the Davis Cup semifinal against Canada, then winner of the famous “Salad Bowl.”
Italy has been placed in Group E, along with Brazil and Norway. The matches against the Brazilians are scheduled for Dec. 29 and 30, while against the Norwegians they play on Jan. 2 and 3. For each challenge, two singles matches are scheduled on the first day and two more on the second, which will then have mixed doubles as an appendix.
The first knockout round is then scheduled for Jan. 4, the semifinals on Jan. 6 and 7, and the final on Sunday, Jan. 8, just days before the first match of the Australian Open main draw.
