Sergio Scariolo amazed by Awudu Abass: “A month ago I wouldn’t have believed it.”
Scariolo on Abass: “He’s a special guy with a heart and hunger of the highest level”
The big star of Virtus Bologna’s victory against Baskonia in the Euroleague was Awudu Abass, making his debut in European competition with the bianconeri jersey.
Coach Scariolo also emphasized in a press conference the excellent performance of the wing of the Bologna club: “Many players played on pain or with a very high level of fatigue and today they were here to fight: I am very proud of them, especially Abass. A month ago he wasn’t even a player and today he did a great job, scoring a couple of triples and was instrumental in our victory.”
“I put a lot of pressure and expectation on Abass, a little bit I regret, but I think his contribution on the outside on the defensive end can give us great value,” Scariolo continued. “Honestly, a month ago I didn’t think he could be so decisive in a EuroLega game I wouldn’t have believed it: he did a great job with the staff, doing a great job: he is a special guy with a heart and a hunger of the highest level, with his limitations like everyone. He has the internal fire and motivation of his own, without needing external stimulation or motivation, and not many people have that. Hopefully his health will assist him and he can continue to help us on both sides.”
