Fear at Augusta Masters, two trees fall near the audience
No injuries but lots of fright
The second day of the Augusta Masters, one of the most important golf tournaments on the PGA circuit, experienced moments of panic when two huge pine trees fell, due to strong winds, near the ‘tee box’ of the 17th hole. No injuries fortunately, but much fright among the audience present, who cleared the area within seconds.
The severe weather that hit the American city also caused another tree to fall, again at the height of the 17th hole, in an area where no one was around. “The Augusta National Golf Club confirms that there were no injuries after three trees fell on the left side of hole 17 due to the wind,” reads a note from the organizers, circulated on the Italian night between Friday and Saturday. “The safety of everyone present is the Club’s top priority. We will continue to monitor the weather in the coming hours and as the tournament continues.”
The day was then suspended and rescheduled, resuming Saturday at 2 p.m. Italian time.
