Filippo Ganna positive for Covid
Tegola for Filippo Ganna.
“After testing positive for Covid-19 and showing mild flu-like symptoms,” announced Ineos Grenadiers, Filippo must leave the Giro. Ganna will now rest and fully recover before resuming his remaining race program for the 2023 season.” This is the fourth case, following those of Frenchman Russo and young Italians Aleotti and Conci.
On Friday Davide Bais won the seventh stage of the Giro d’Italia 2023, the Capua-Gran Sasso d’Italia with the uphill finish at the 2130-meter altitude of Campo Imperatore. The 25-year-old native of Rovereto, bearer of the Eolo-Kometa Cycling Team detached on the last ramps of the final climb the Czech Karel Vacek (Corratec Selle Italia), who placed second, and Simone Petilli (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty), with whom he characterized this stage with a very long breakaway from the first kilometers. The trio’s lead reached as high as 12 minutes, and Petilli was the virtual pink jersey for a long time. All three had a chance to seize their first professional victory; Bais succeeded.
