Joao Almeida wants it all: “I can win the Giro d’Italia.”
Joao Almeida is not satisfied
Joao Almeida is not content with having claimed his first success in a Grand Tour by beating Geraint Thomas in a two-man sprint on the finish line of Monte Bondone.
“This stage win means a lot to me, after so many second and third places,” says the UAE Team Emirates’ Portuguese rider. –At the end there was a hard climb, with gradients between 9 and 10 percent. I rode the best way I could. I was a little surprised that Geraint [Thomas] came back like a rocket. From there I suffered until the end. Winning the stage was an important step for my career-I gave everything without thinking about the general classification. I think I can win the Giro, but it won’t be easy at all against Roglic and Thomas.”
