Jasmine Paolini does not repeat and says goodbye to Roland Garros
Roland Garros: Jasmine Paolini out in the second round
Jasmine Paolini was eliminated in the second round at Roland Garros. The Tuscan tennis player surrendered to Serbia’s Olga Danilovic in two sets (2-6 5-7) after an hour and 35 minutes of play.
The number four Italian tennis player failed to repeat after her fine debut victory against Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the number 30 seed on the scoreboard. After a first set dominated by the Serb, Jasmine’s reaction came in the second fraction, rising as high as 5-1. At the most beautiful, however, the Italian went off and Danilovic found her strokes again, signing a super comeback that allowed her to close 7-5 the second partial.
Paolini bids farewell to the Paris Slam, while Danilovic gets the third round with world number seven Ons Jabeur.
What is now being staged is the 122nd edition of the French Open, one of the four tournaments that are part of the Grand Slam, the second in order of time after the Australian Open, which in 2023 was won by Serbia’s Novak Djokovic among the men and Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka among the women.
At the men’s level, the Roland Garros roll of honor sees Rafa Nadal widely in the lead: the Spaniard, who was forced to forfeit for this edition, has won 14 times, the last of which was just last year, defeating Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final with a score of 6-3, 6-3, 6-0. At 6 wins is the legendary Swede Bjorn Borg.
Among the women, 2022 was won by Iga Swiatek, who got the better of Coco Gauff in two sets (6-1, 6-3) in the final. Topping the roll of honor is Chris Evert, the U.S. outfielder who lifted the top trophy on seven occasions between 1974 and 1986.
