Canadian GP qualifying, the words of Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso
Max Verstappen enjoys his fifth sagional pole position and the 25th of his career won under water in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix at the Montreal circuit. Alongside him on the front row will start not Nico Hulkenberg, penalized three grid positions for not slowing down under a red flag, but Fernando Alonso.
“Yesterday had not been a great session,” says Red Bull’s two-time world champion, quote taken by Sportmediaset. “We changed the car a little bit, but today the track was wet and everything was different. In any case, I think the car has improved in general in terms of driving. In the wet you always have to stay on the piece, keeping your full attention. The track was slippery in some places, but I made the right decisions at the right time to set times and we are very happy. I like riding in the wet, I come from Holland and we are used to riding in the wet…. Tomorrow maybe it will be dry and everything will be different, however, we have a good car for the race.”
“It was a very complicated qualifying because you had to choose the right tires at the right time, the third position (later became second, ed.) we accept it, it’s a good result,” said the Spaniard of the Aston Martin. “The Canadian fans are always fantastic, not only on the track but also in the city. I love Montreal because of how it can welcome the GP. Yesterday in Free Practice 1 unfortunately they waited for us without us going out on the track, I hope they enjoyed today, and tomorrow will be like that. Hopefully we can put some pressure on Red Bull, they have had very easy wins so far and I hope they have to push harder tomorrow. I want to be two seconds behind them, not 20 seconds.”
