Reggina, president and board of directors resign
President Marcello Cardona and the entire board of directors of Reggina 1914 have resigned from their respective positions. The team owner Felice Saladino himself gave the news in an official statement on the amaranth website.
“The emergency phase for the club that began with the acquisition last year, the sporting consolidation and the repayment of debt comes to an end,” Saladino writes. “Today Reggina is a club made up of women and men of great value, supported by its extraordinary fans, which has strictly adhered to the path indicated by the three-year plan that I announced a year ago. In this path it is stipulated that after this first phase is over, the Club must give itself a new structure to conquer the ambitious goals. I am proud to have participated in saving the team, secured the Club and kicked off its ambitious project, I did it with the heart and commitment of someone who loves his land. For this reason, I have made myself available to initiate talks with those who express interest in the Club, with the aim of continuing the successful path we have started and further growing our territories and our beloved Reggina. In this context, the President and the Board of Directors of Reggina 1914 have submitted their resignations in order to leave in the freedom of those who will participate in the project the possibility of defining the administrative and management bodies. The entire Board has managed this phase with rigor and a great sense of responsibility, knowing how to overcome even the most complicated moments of this year. Special thanks to President Marcello Cardona, whose leadership has brought the Club to the results it has achieved today. In the wake of the transparency that has always characterized the new course of Reggina, it will be my care to give timely information on the evolution of the talks for the sale of the Club.”
Instead, this is Cardona’s greeting: “Last night I met with the ownership of the Club in Milan and he reported to me that he had fulfilled the registration operations for the 2023/2024 sports season, concluding an important period for Reggina 1914, which began last June. In the sporting year, numerous commitments were addressed, including the corporate reorganization, the burdensome debt, resolved after a transparent and legal path, with the judicial arrangement and set up an excellent team that, thanks to the coach, his staff, sports director and athletes, achieved brilliant results. All this with the inexhaustible contribution of the fans, institutions and our entire wonderful city. At the same time, the ownership informed me of the intention to sell the club and therefore I considered, physiologically, my commitment ended and resigned, to the board of directors, from the prestigious position. I thank everyone, indiscriminately, for the collaboration esteem and trust, which has allowed me to spend myself with determination for the club, always looking, as a guide, to the great cultural values of our territory that has allowed so many Regginians to be moral and professional leaders throughout the country. I will soon meet the press for a friendly greeting of thanks.
