F1 Ferrari, Carlos Sainz speaks out on contract
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz at a press conference in Hungary also addressed his contract, which expires at the end of 2024: “In Ferrari today we have other priorities to solve and there are many close races. During the winter break I will start thinking about where to race in 2025, now the priority is to bring Ferrari back to the top.”
The Iberian remained very cautious about the Redhead’s chances at the Hungaroring: “I hope that at the Hungaroring it can go better and adapt more to our characteristics. Unfortunately, our car is very sensitive to the weather and track conditions, we know we have some weaknesses that make us vulnerable to these kinds of factors. However, if the conditions are favorable for our car we could be quite strong here.”
“At Silverstone we realized our problems, and I had already said beforehand to wait for the British GP because it was a high-speed, high-wind track,” Sainz continued. “I knew we had made progress, but with such a close battle behind Red Bull and Max maybe one day we will be a tenth in front, and another day we will be a tenth behind.
According to Sainz, everything is played out on the edge of tenths: “It’s a fluctuation of two tenths that can change the outcome of the whole weekend, because you can go from podium to 7th-8th place: the result changes a lot, but the performance you gain or lose is not that high. It is a matter of tracks: in one the Mercedes is better, in another the Aston Martin and in another the McLaren. One should not overreact, but be aware that there will be more or less positive weekends.”
