NFL, Justin Herbert and the highest salary ever
QB signed a five-year, 262.5 million guaranteed deal
As reported by ESPN, the Los Angeles Chargers have reached an agreement with Justin Herbert. The 25-year-old quarterback, chosen by the Chargers themselves in 2020, has decided to continue his adventure with the Los Angeles franchise. For him mega contract that makes him the NFL player with the highest average salary ever.
Specifically, the Chargers signed Justin Herbert to a five-year deal at an impressive $262.5 million total. In fact, the 25-year-old All Star will collect $52.5 million per single season, making him the highest paid player in NFL history.
“I sleep better at night knowing we have a quarterback like that,” Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said at the end of last season. “He’s already done so much in his young career, but we all know we can still do a lot because of his commitment to the game.” After leading the Chargers back to the playoffs (they had been missing since 2018), Justin Herbert is now expected to do much more. Herbert has thrown 94 career touchdowns, recording three consecutive seasons with at least 25 touchdowns, putting his name alongside Hall of Famer Peyton Manning as the only quarterbacks to accomplish such feats early in their careers. Some are calling for him to give the Los Angeles franchise an NFL ring. In short, a pharaonic five-year contract but also many expectations on Justin Herbert, who has become the highest paid in all of NFL history.
