Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the round of 16, Manchester United disaster
Some biggies already pass the round, but there is no shortage of tumbles that cause a sensation.
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are already in the round of 16 of the Champions League, as is Real Sociedad, which keeps company with Inter Milan in Group D. But the European Wednesday evening also gives a surprise result, which could cost its protagonists dearly: Manchester United in fact gets beaten by Copenhagen and è now even last in its grouping.
For Real Sociedad, there were no problems against derelict Benfica: a clear 3-1 win came for the Spaniards (two goals in six minutes thanks to Merino and Oyarzabal’s penalty, then Barrenetxea scored and in the second half Rafa Silva shortened it) on 10 points and qualified for the round of 16 exactly like Inter. Also ahead is Real Madrid, which makes it 3-0 against Braga (Brahim Diaz, Vinicius and Rodrygo after a penalty parried by Lunin to Djalò).
Bayern Munich also did well, beating Galatasaray 2-1 thanks to a brace from the usual Harry Kane (Bakambu halved the gap only in the recovery). In the same group, the hara-kiri of Manchester United, ahead by two goals after only 26' minutes thanks to two goals from Hojlund, is sensational. With Rashford sent off comes forò Copenhagen’s first equalizer (Elyounoussi and Gonçalves’s penalty), the new Red Devils overtaking (Bruno Fernandes’s penalty) and the incredible 4-3 final by the Scandinavian hosts (Lerager at 83'83' and Bardghji at 87'87;).
Good 2-0, finally, for Arsenal against Sevilla (Trossard and Saka). De Jong, finally, signed the 1-0 with which PSV Eindhoven beat Lens and hooked the French in second place in Group B.
