Mikaela Shiffrin enchants at Are Slalom: victory and Cup in pocket
An epic success, making her even more a part of history.
Mikaela Shiffrin wins again in the World Cup. She does so by winning the slalom in Are, thus securing her eighth personal specialty Cupà. In fact, at the moment the ranking reads 730 points, with Petra Vlhova and Lena Duerr distant 225 and 238 points respectively. For the Colorado champion è moreover, success number 96 in her career, 59° in the specialty. In the overall standings, Federica Brignone remains in second place, 282 lengths behind leader Lara Gut-Behrami.
For Mikaela Shiffrin, the main need seemed to be to put the Cortina d'Ampezzo injury behind her, as also emerged during a first run in which the priority had seemed to be to manage the race while avoiding risks. Everything changes forò in the second, of good level until halfway and then faced in the final with a gear simply impossible to replicate for all opponents.
To prove it all è the stopwatch: Mikaela Shiffrin closes at 1:42.95, trimming a resounding +1.24 over the runner-up (Croatia’s Zrinka Ljutic) and +1.34 over Switzerland’s Michelle Gisin. Far behind were the Italians: Lara Della Mea è only 25th at +3.48, Martina Peterlini 26th at +3.65. Even second last at the finish line (twenty-seventh) Federica Brignone. For her the gap from the winner è of 3.77.
