Miami, Jasmine Paolini consoles herself in doubles.
After losing in three sets in singles to the U.S. Emma Navarro, number 20 in the WTA rankings, Jasmine Paolini redeemed herself in doubles at the Miami Open. The Tuscan tennis player, in fact, paired with Sara Errani, reached the quarterfinals, beating the pair formed by Germany’s Laura Siegemund and China’s Yifan Xu, the eighth seed.
6-4 6-1 was the score that accrued in just under an hour and a half of play in favor of the Italian women. In the first set Jasmine and Sara immediately went ahead by a break (2-0) but were caught up by Siegemund and Xu. The second break forò è was the decisive one and allowed the Italian pair to win the first set (6-4).
In the second partial, the Azzurri ramped up, first flying to 3-0, then closing with the final 6-1 on the second useful match point. In the quarterfinals Paolini and Errani will face the winners of the challenge between China’s Xinyu Wang and Saisai Zheng and Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova and Irina Khromacheva.
