European Athletics Championships – Word to the press box: "Unique atmosphere, but could have been better organized"
The European Athletics Championships are drawing to a close. On this Wednesday, Rome will close its doors after 6 days of great excitement, excitement that bodes well for the future of the sport but especially for the upcoming Paris.
Precisely the capital è returned to embrace the sport in major international events (meetings and Golden Gala aside) after 37 years, when the 1987 World Championships took the stage in the capital.
But those were other times. Those were the days when Italy staked everything on Panetta in the 3000 steeplechase specialty, on Evangelista in the long jump and on Da Milano in the 20 km march. Then there was also the unnamable Carl Lewis, the son of the wind, an icon of a sport in which he è became a legend to the sound of golds and records.
Today è a whole other era, è a whole other story. Italy flies very high, it does so dragged by its captain Gianmarco Tamberi, it does so dragging a slice of the public that has turned after Tokyo 2021, falling not even too secretly in love with this national team.
To recount the emotions, as always, a press gallery that è divided between the field and the mixed zone, which collected anecdotes, spent the hours in the press room and put together the pieces of these six, intense, days.
Thusì Giuseppe Coppola of the Sannio Quotidiano of Benevento: “È my first experience soì close to athletics and I must say that I am satisfied, impossible to say otherwise; the enthusiasm thatè was created impressed me a lot, Tamberi in this è was special, in light of the results there are also many good hopes in view of the Olympics”. “At the organizational level – continues the colleague – I expected something more; the stadium is not è packed even if the ’width does not help the eye blow, the logistics in the surroundings manifested some criticalities;, I hope it will serve as a lesson for the future”. Finally, the most electrifying medal: “Difficult not to mention Tamberi once again although personally Sibilio’s super final in the 400 hs and Luca Sito’s run have impressed me a lot”.
Fabrizio Condò of Radio Max: “A’definitely positive experience, the’atmosphere è unique, sorry for the lack of “sold out” over the six days, in the sense that from the point of view of participation we expected something more” but è becauseé we had to do more”. “Impossible not to mention the double presents of President Sergio Mattarella, after his participation in the evening of Tamberi with whom he has a special relationship, he decided to repeat, as a surprise, in this last act and I do not remember ever twice in a row the presence of such an authorityà at the stadium”. And to close: “To cite Tamberi as the most exciting medalistè is a must, and è right that it should be soè, but personally the one that left me the mostè è was Nadia Battocletti, a historic double (5000 and 10000 meters) won with a serenityè and a disarming joy. Now it is the turn of Paris”.
